Horse Breeders
You probably found this site because you’re looking to enhance your mare and foals health, condition, growth and soundness and breed your horse.
Considerable time and money is invested by breeders in analyzing bloodlines and selecting stallions for the mares. To reach genetic potential a similar investment of thought and care is necessary after pregnancy is confirmed.
Breeders recognize Nutrition influences fertility; ability to recover from foaling and conceive again; foal vigor at birth and the growth and soundness of suckling foal.
Nutritional management of the mare even before the foal is born effects the quality and quantity of milk available to the newborn foal. It’s critical. Isn’t the goal when breeding horses to ensure a sound and healthy foal and mom that doesn’t suffer any long term effects from her pregnancy?
Some of the worries breeders have concerning the pregnant mare’s nutrition are:
- The foal’s immunity against disease
- The risk of diarrhea in the young horse
- Foal growth rate
- Bone growth and the risk of bone and joint diseases in the weanling and yearling
Lets face it as a breeder the potential to develop these diseases develops in late gestation as a result of imbalanced diets can be big problems for breeders.
Breeders realize it takes a lot of work to make sure mother and baby get the right feed and supplements, vaccinations, and vet checkups. Their health and well being is on every ones mind 24/7 and wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t need to worry as much?
Well now breeders don’t need to worry anymore because Equus-Rx Pro software has four modules to help keep track of all of your mares, foals and stallions health and nutritional needs. The different modules are nutritional analysis, conditioning, health history and tasks, and care and maintenance.
Breeders begin by entering all your horses breeding information in the health history and tasks module under reproduction. This is a great way to track a mare’s pregnancy from start to finish along with any challenges and medical situations that might happen along the way.
Be able to enter:
- Date
- Heat date
- Breed date
- Breeding method
|
- Sire
- Foal Date
- Exam care
- Protocol Notes
|
|
|
Keeping good records is perhaps the best proactive action breeders can take.
TRACK vaccinations, dental, hoof care, worming, and vet checkups.
Under health history quickly see at a glance the last date for each activity and their next scheduled due date.
Having this information at your fingertips allows horse breeders to make accurate and timely decisions at a glance.

The devil is in the details and this has never been truer than when taking care of your horse.

Horse breeders by tracking all these important events you can control how your mares’ pregnancy will turn out and help prevent her from getting sick or injured.
The nutritional analysis module
With the horse nutritional analysis module breeders can check your mare’s diet, modify it, balance it or create a new one using the National Research Councils nutrient requirements of horses.
The mare’s diet is vitally important to her health and welfare as well as her foals. With this software breeders can finally take the guesswork out of feeding and supplementing the mare. This take the risk out of your mare not being able to recover from foaling and conceiving again while the quality as well as quantity of milk she will need for her foal is good; and ensures foal vigor at birth and the growth and soundness of suckling foal.
With the nutritional module choose the life stage specific for your horses. The different life stages for breeding are weanling 4 to 6 months, 6 to 12 months, yearling 12 months, long yearling 18 months, two year old, pregnant 9 months to 11 months, lactating foal to weanling and breeding stallion.
The horse nutritional module has the largest feed database in the world so breeders can choose commercial feeds, raw feeds, supplements, herbs and hay. And if we doesn’t exist in the program it allows you to enter it in yourself. So there’s always an update and accurate record of your horse’s diet.
Now breeders don’t need to worry anymore if they are feeding too much or not enough and the foal suffers for it.
The care and maintenance module
With the care and maintenance module track your mares, weanlings, yearlings, and breeding stallions feeding schedule; by entering their feeding times and detailed information about their diet.
Individually choose up to four feeding times per day. Choose what you will be feeding the horse at each feeding and the amount that will be feeding each time.
Choose a variety of feeding choices including a wide variety of commercial grains and hay. Choose to add supplements and herbs to your horses’ diet as well.
No more missed feedings, no more feeding the wrong items in the wrong amounts at the wrong time.
Reduce the risk of colic, laminitis, and founder and growth problems associated with young horses. What’s great is you can print it out and post it in the feed room in the barn to prevent mistakes.
Some of the other things the care and maintenance module tracks are:
- Owner information (name, address, phone, etc)
- Professional information this is your horses’ care givers (vet, farrier, dentist)
- Your horses’ physical information (breed, color, height, age, weight, etc)
The Conditioning Module
With the conditioning module track your young horses exercise so they don’t get injured.
|
Breeders don’t to do anything to cause permanent damage early on in the young horse.
The young horses’ skeletal framework develops at a rate of about one-fourth to one-fifth that of the muscles and this difference can mean disaster.
Beneath those muscles lie juvenile joints, tender tendon sheaths and vulnerable cartilage pads.
|
|
That’s why the conditioning module gives three levels designed for your horses particular situation.
By tracking the young horse’s vitals see if you’re are working them too hard or barely working them at all.
All three phases have a section on their schedules to enter your horses temp, respiration, pulse and notes.
