We all want to win. We all want that extra edge that’ll be the difference between winning and being an also ran.

loreta 2smallSome of the questions we ask ourselves are:

  • I’m I feeding my sport horse the right amounts so he gets all the nutrients he needs for proper muscle development, energy, condition, performance and a strong healthy body so we can get results?

  • Does my performance horse need supplements to perform better?

  • Am I on top of all his health needs like vaccinations, worming, dental, hoof care, etc. so he doesn’t get sick?

  • Is my sport horse in the best condition for upcoming competitions?

We love our horses and because we do we worry about keeping them healthy, preventing any future problems and of course you want to WIN.

So we go through a lot of work to make sure they have the right feed and supplements, vaccinations, dental and vet checkups, hooves trimmed and worming regularly. Their health and well being are on our minds 24/7

Wouldn’t it be great if we didn’t have to worry as much?

Well you don’t have to anymore because Equus-Rx Pro software has four modules to help keep track of all of your horses’ health and nutritional needs. The different modules are nutritional analysis, conditioning, health history and tasks, and care and maintenance.

The nutritional analysis module allows you to check the sport horse’s diet, modify it, balance it or create a new one using the National Research Councils nutrient requirements of sport horses.

The horse’s diet is vitally important to his health, welfare, and performance

Energy is the single factor most likely to affect the sport horses’ performance. The amount of energy depends on the type of speed and amount of work, condition of the horse and skill of the rider and the environmental conditions.

racing horsesEnergy deficiency and heat build up can limit the sport horse and the diet most addresses these. Analyzing the horses’ diet and making changes can assist in delaying the onset of fatigue, reducing the risk of injury and allowing horses to maintain top speed for longer periods.

Fatigue in muscles increases the reliance on tendons, ligaments and joints – predisposing to injury and breakdowns in these structures. Feeding strategies should increase blood and muscle glucose and minimize heat production.

With this software we can finally take the guesswork out of feeding and supplementing the sport horse.

This allow you to take the risk out of your horse getting feeding related diseases like colic, laminitis and founder but also ...

Ensures he gets the energy he needs so he doesn’t become fatigued and injury himself.

Did you know most injuries (the highest incidence of lameness) in horses
occur in the Spring and Summer?

According to a recent study performed by the U.S.D.A. in conjunction with A.P.H.I.S.

Button_worlds_largestThe nutritional module has the largest on line feed database in the world so you can choose commercial feeds, raw feeds, supplements, herbs and hay. And if we don’t have it in the program it allows you to enter it in yourself. So you always have an update and accurate record of your horse’s diet.

Now you don’t have to worry anymore if you are feeding too much or not enough.

Have you ever wondered if you were putting your sport horse at risk by over training them, pushing them too fast and too hard or ever considered the unnecessary pain and potential long term damage that was being inflicted?

With the conditioning module you have three exercise levels to choose from for your sport horses’ particular situation.
They are:

All exercise levels have a section for you to enter your sport horses temp, respiration, pulse and notes
This information helps you track your horses health so he doesn’t work too hard too fast and get injured.

This program helps you exercise your sport horse slowly over time in order to harden tendons, muscles, and ligaments. It is important in the initial stage that your horse is only walking and trotting so there are no injuries. Your sport horses’ fitness is like a pyramid and the wider the base the higher the peak they can reach.

Having this information at your fingertips allows you to make accurate and timely decisions at a glance

The devil is in the details
and this has never been truer than when taking care of your horse.

The health history and tasks module helps you keep track and stay on top of all your horses’ health and overall care so his health doesn’t suffer.

Some of things the health history and tasks module tracks are:

Health history allows you to see at a glance the last date for each activity and their next scheduled due date.
By tracking all these important events you can control and prevent your horse from getting sick or injured.

The care and maintenance module allows you track your horses feeding schedule; by entering their feeding times and detailed information about their diet.

Finally be able to individually choose up to four feeding times per day. Be able to choose what you will be feeding the horse at each feeding and the amount you will be feeding each time.

For the most efficient feeding of the performance horse here are some guidelines:

  • Frequent small meals are digested more efficiently than a couple of large meals. Feeding the performance horse as continuously as you can throughout the day is a great benefit.

  • Feed uniform ration from meal to meal. Mixings grain with chopped forage creates a more consistent target for digestive action than separate servings of concentrates and different types of hay.

  • Follow the feeding schedule rigidly, since punctuality is rewarded by as much as 40% greater efficiency in digestion and absorption of the nutrients.

  • Adjust the energy level of the diet to the amount of work the performance horse does.

  • Balance the ration so that the roughage is not greatly outweighed by grain, even with horses whose energy requirements call for tens of thousands of calories.

You will have a variety of feeding choices including a wide variety of commercial grains and hay. You can even choose to add supplements and herbs to your horses’ diet as well.

Reduce the risk of colic, laminitis and founder... No more missed feedings, no more feeding the wrong items in the wrong amounts at the wrong time and

What’s great is you can print it out and post it in the feed room in the barn to prevent mistakes.

Some of the other things the care and maintenance module tracks are:

  • Owner information (name, address, phone, etc)

  • Professional information this is your horses’ care givers (vet, farrier, dentist)

  • Your horses’ physical information (breed, color, height, age, weight, etc)
